About Us

A bit of history and hall of fame of people from the past present and.. future?

Antenna Studios started out as a concept in 2001 by Jakob Kaye, a local musician who felt the need for a rehearsal facility. It was the dream to take over a beautiful old derelict building and breath life into it with a mixture of music, art and everything in between.

A team was formed of people from very different backgrounds and spaces were organised into functioning workshops, studios and offices to facilitate all sorts of needs and demands of the local creative community; rehearsal and recording studios, a guitar and amp repair workshop, graphics and film making suites, printing facilities and an art gallery.

Currently Antenna focuses mainly on music and sound related projects however the 'gallery studio' is kept as an open hall style room for a multitude of functions from acoustic rehearsals to concerts, yoga practice to film shoots, tai-chi to life drawing.. you name it.

The current team are dedicated to keeping the services and facilities up to the highest standard whilst keeping costs for our clients realistic and fair.

Darren Doherty came in as Studio Manager after Jakob went into full time education in 2008. With a background in studio production and promotion he has taken to his role within Antenna with true finesse and a highly positive attitude. Being also a (secret) drummer guarantees spice, richness and appropriate punch to live recordings and dance related music.

Stefan Inglis having commuted from Reading most days on zero salary in 2004 proved his commitment to the studios ambitions and has been an indispensable member or the team without whom much of the recording sessions would not be as great as they are. Being from a programming background Stefan is the technical 'whizz kid' of Antenna.

Dylan Hervais-Adelman is one of the original studio 'cats' who characterises Antenna with his cheeky grin, speedy skateboard action and original form of communication tactics. Like a pot holes in Streatham are the increasing numbers of walls which adorn Dylans friendly murals and illustrations in schools, gardens, streets and bedrooms around London. You (literally) cannot miss them if you have been to the studios.

Jon Dickinson being the saviour to us all when things need fixing, mending, making funky or just making you go "WOW!!" has followed his dream of making his own brand of 'Dickinson Amps' products from his workshop allowing us all to be proud of british manufacturing again. With the likes of Muse and Brian Eno commissioning him for products one can only wonder what he's going to make next.

Isabella Summers girl of action and positivity can (and should) be spotted around the studios in between touring with Florence and the Machine developing artists, producing new number one tracks and preparing for her next round of impressive gigs. Always on the look out for talented artists, BBC horror sound effect records and her next cup of tea.

Gez Murphy a killer guitarist and singer / songwriter runs the Secret Guitar Shop & Music Emporium in the front of Antenna. Also a guitar tutor he doesn't waste time to ensure you will kick ass with a guitar to suit. Some people know how to rock, Gez knows how to see your rock and raise you a volcano.

Graeme Dalton a multi talented individual who did many impressive graphics jobs here at Antenna saw the studios as a way out of mindless employment, nurturing his own talent and dreams. Currently still operating in Crystal Palace you will not be far from one of his blues/rock gigs whether with the Love Birds or at an open mic night.

Danun Todd, although having moved into other avenues of business he can occasionally be spotted in the rehearsal rooms. One sees a shadow, then a more of a dark cloud then... Dr Doom! The rocking daddy was elemental to the upsurge of the recording facilities and the heavy rock scene of Crystal Palace.

Gavin Skellhorn the man who played Billy Fury in stage productions in his earlier career and took chirpiness to the next level was active on promotion during the early days of Antenna. Now working with Danun they formed a great friendship and working relationship together and even played together in the band 'The Hummingbirds' and 'The Antenna Band'.

Woody: 'Master of the Shend' is not a film or a book.. no no. He's much more fun and exciting as a club lighting operator, retro projectionist and Optikinetics dealer. Once based at Antenna, now based in Bedfordshire Woody fired bolts of happiness into the paths of all who met him. Good luck to you Woody X

Jakob can be found lurking at the studio some weekends; generally plotting, moaning and getting in the way (but he's kinda the boss so no one can get rid of him). Studying to be a scientist in relation to engineering applications for society and the environment his goal continues in his master-plan to make the world a positive and more colourful place to co-exist. When will the aliens just come and take him away?
